The Kindred Stamps Advent Box is here and is appropriately named The Great Box! This box includes so many great items including a stamp set, paper pack, metal die, stencil, shaker mix, washi tape, embossing powder and a bunch of other fun goodies. This box inspired so many projects for me and I can’t wait to share them all with you. Today I am just sharing the first sneak peak of the dog house explosion box. The box is so much fun on the outside but it’s an even bigger party on the inside!
Project 1
To create the box I used the Exploding Shaker Box die set from i-Crafter but I modified it slightly. For the box lid I cut an additional “top box” piece. One top box piece I scored 3/4 in. from the end to create the top fold on the house. The other top piece I trimmed the excess 3/4 in. from the end so the top edges matched up. I used extra scraps of red cardstock to stick in the front and back openings. I used a black marker to add the woodgrain lines to the plain red cardstock.
I matted the red patterned paper with the lights onto the sides of the box and the top two sides of the lid. I used a piece of black cardstock to create the doggy door. I only adhered the bottom of the door to the box so the front of the box lid could be tucked in behind the door.
I used the Woodgrain stencil and Barn Door Distress ink to decorate the inside of the box. I used the Double Stitched Square dies from Art Impressions for the sentiment square, the black matte behind it, and to create the window in the back. I used my Copic markers and a white gel pen to sketch the snowy window scene. I used a small piece of red cardstock behind each of the characters to prop them up.
There are so many fun characters included in this stamp set it’s hard to show them all in one photo!
Project 2
For my second card I decided to go with a classic color scheme. I used the box stencil and Distress Oxide Black Soot ink to create a background for this 5.5″ x 5.5″ square card. I used Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink to distress the edges of this stenciled background. I used scraps of the yellow and chevron striped paper to layer the card front. I used the Double Stitched Square die to create the front square where I stamped the sentiment with Versafine black pigment ink and distressed the edges with Hickory Distress Oxide ink. I used foam tape to attach the characters to the card front. I used glittery enamel dots and black satin ribbon to decorate the front of the card.
Project 3
For my third project I used the pumpkin patch paper from the box to create an A2 sized card. I trimmed a strip of cardstock to roughly 2 inches and ink blended a fall ombre with Rusty Hinge and Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide inks. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine pigment black ink and attached the characters using foam tape. I used the sequins from the box shaker pack to embellish the card front.
Project 4
My next two projects are more holiday themed. I used the box stencil and Barn Door and Pine Needles Distress Oxide inks to create red and green colored backgrounds. I used the Wonky Stitched Rectangle die to cut out the front rectangle. I heat embossed the “Jingle all the Way” sentiment with white embossing powder onto a solid green oval die cut. I used the stencil and Pine Needles ink to add a subtle pattern and splatter effect onto the oval die cut. I attached the character and the sentiment oval to the card using foam tape. I used glittery enamel dots to decorate this card.
Project 5
For my last project I decided to make some holiday tags featuring the rest of the pattern paper included in the box. I used the Double Stitched Tags from Art Impressions to create the die cuts. I used Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink and the Blizzard stencil to create the layered background. To determine which character went on which tag I matched the characters to the coordinating pattern paper. I used white embossing powder to heat emboss the various holiday sentiment stamps included in the box stamp sets. I used glittery white enamel dots to decorate the holiday tags.
I colored all of the characters with my Copic sketch markers. I will provide a coloring guide when I share the rest of my projects tomorrow, so make sure to check back here!

Hi Brianne! I love the dog house box project and just had to get the die to make it.
I have made a white prototype, using your instructions and have everything sorted except for the triangular sides. I just can't get the size right. Would it be possible for you to supply measurements for these please?
Many thanks, can't wait to fill my box with the advent character goodness!
Hi, I think i get how she made the roof but it’s tricky to make sense without pictures.
Have you managed to work it out?
Hi Miranda! I used the Exploding Box template for the roof but added additional cardstock to create the roof shape. I didn’t write down any exact measurements I apologize.
