KS National Voodoo Doll Day

Hi KS fans! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Today I am sharing two cards featuring the new National Voodoo Doll Day set Kindred Stamps. The National Voodoo Doll Day set is part of Kindred Stamps Wacky Holiday collection. Shop this new product here!

I used my Copic Sketch markers to color the voodoo doll images. I used my E40’s on the first doll and my V90’s on the second doll.

Project 1

For my first project I wanted to go with a neutral color scheme of tans, reds, and blacks. First I die cut the front panel from the Love Blooms Kraft Toner Card Fronts using the stitched rectangle from the Card Basics Die Set. I used Red Deco Foil Transfer sheets to create the foiled look on the toner card front. I used a piercing tool to scratch on the foil to to give it a more damaged/grungy look. I also distressed the edges of the card front with Black Soot Distress ink.

I created a heart to place on the voodoo doll by using the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies. Then I stamped and colored a pin and placed it so it looked as if it was pricking the voodoo doll’s heart. I used the X Stencil with Black Soot Distress ink to blend the design on the the circle behind the voodoo doll. The X’s mimic the voodoo doll’s button eyes. The circle I die cut using the Card Basics Die Set.

I used a Banner Die to create a sentiment strip to place on top of the card front. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder onto the black banner die cut.

Project 2

For my second card I wanted to use more of a toxic color scheme with yellow, green, black, and purple. I used Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, and Black Soot Distress Oxide inks to ink blend the striped background. Then I used Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide ink with the X Stencil to mimic the X’s on the voodoo doll’s button eyes. I matted the ink blended background onto black and purple cardstock.

I created a heart to place on the voodoo doll by using the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder onto a thin strip of black cardstock. I matted the black strip with lime green cardstock. I stamped and colored three pins to coordinate with the card background and tucked them behind the sentiment strip.

For this second card, I made a fun interactive light up design. This time I tried something new by using a reed switch to magnetically activate the lights! For this light up mechanism, the voodoo dolls eyes glow when it is pricked in the heart by the green pin.

The picture below illustrates the mapping of the lights and the circuits. The magnet on the far left is where the green pin needle (has a separate magnetic on the back of the pin) will rest on the card. The reed switch is located where the top of the green pin (magnet) will be when the pin is pricking the heart.

Check out this video below to see the light up mechanism in action:

The supplies I used for the light up mechanism include:
Yellow Sticker Lights
Copper Tape
Conductive Fabric Tape Patches
2032 3V Coin Battery
Reed Switch Normally Open (N/O)
Tiny Magnets
