Kindred Stamps August Release – Ack!

Hi KS fans! Thanks for stopping by my blog. It’s the last day of the Kindred Stamps Release Week for August 2022, and I am excited to share a sneak peek of the new Ack! set. This stamp set is a 2 x 6 set that comes with 1 alien image and a handful of fun sentiments. This set and the rest of the August release will be available on Friday, August 26th at 8 AM PST. I used my Copic Sketch markers to color the alien. The markers I used are listed at the end of this post.

Project 1

My first project is from another planet, specifically Mars. I created a outer space background to coordinate with the sentiment “love you to Mars & back,” which isn’t THAT far since Mars is right beside Earth lol. Anyways, I used the Snowfall Embossing Powder to heat emboss the sentiment

The crater background was created with the Crater Layers Stencil from Trinity Stamps and Distress Oxide inks (Pumice Stone, Hickory Smoke, and Black Soot). The stencil has 3 layers to it and it even comes with a masking outline to protect the area after it has been ink blended. I used Pixie Spray to keep the mask stationary while I ink blended the rest of the card front.

Next, I used Distress Oxide inks (Abandoned Coral, Seedless Preserves, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot) to create the galaxy. Then I splattered white acrylic paint all over the space background to create “stars” in the galaxy.

For some added fun, I used Nuvo Crystal Glaze (also known as clear liquid glass) to add a glossy texture to his helmet. To finish the card, I used foam tape to attach the alien and the heat embossed sentiment strip to the card front.

Project 2

My next card features an ‘invasion of the third kind’ where the alien is being teleported onto Earth from his space ship. The background was created with a multitude of masking and Distress Oxide inks (Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, Brushed Corduroy, Walnut Stain, Hickory Smoke, and Black Soot).

I used two sentiments on this card with “Ack!” being stamp in a dark yellow in the teleportation beam and “greeting earthlings” stamped on the rim of the space ship.

I hand-wrote in a third sentiment of “take me to your darkness (which is a play on ‘take me to your leader’) so the recipient will take the card into a dark room to see a surprise effect of a glow in the dark brain! How cool right?! To create this effect I used an embossing pen to trace some of the lines on his brain and glow-in-the-dark embossing powder. Check out the image below to see the effect in action!

*Note: Copic markers do not mix well with embossing powders so I HIGHLY recommend coloring the entire image first and then heat embossing. You could accidently damage your nibs even if the embossing powder is heat set.
