Hi everyone! Today I am guest designing for such a bright company, Pear Blossom Press. This amazing company sells products that make light up cards and other paper crafts super easy! Check out their EZ-Light and Power Pack products here. Keep reading below for more details on how I created this beautiful holiday ornament with just one EZ-Light! This project is also featured on the Pear Blossom Press blog today, check it out here!
To create the ornament I first heat embossed the image from the Iconic Ornament stamp set with white embossing powder onto kraft cardstock. I used Prismacolor pencils to color inside of the holiday icons. The colors I used are listed at the bottom of this blog post. I die cut the image with a 3.75″ circle die and I matted it onto a scallop circle shape with solid red cardstock. To finish the ornament I heat embossed the “Shine Bright This Holiday Season” sentiment with white embossing powder onto a thin strip of red cardstock and attached it to the front with foam adhesive. For detailed instructions on how I created the light up mechanism keep reading below.
Check out the video below to see how the light up mechanism works:
The easiest process, for me, to create a light up project:
- Color the images on the front of the ornament and use a Crop-O-Dile hole punch to cut out small holes where you want the light to shine through.
- With a pencil trace the small circle openings onto the back piece of the ornament. This way your lights will line up with the holes in the top layer of the ornament.
- Use glue dots, tear tape and Scotch tape to adhere the EZ-Lights mechanism (batter holder and button, the wires, and the lights) to the ornament base. I attach the lights to the base so that the illuminated areas aren’t so concentrated.
- Add vellum to the backside of the colored ornament to hide the lights in the background.
- Attach double layered foam tape to the back of the front piece or to front of the base to account for the height of the battery and button mechanism.
- Typically I add a “Push Here” button; however; with this ornament I just used the sentiment strip for the button placement (behind the word “holiday”). Now you have a light up ornament!
