KS April Release – Galactic Desert

Hi KS fans! Thanks for stopping by my blog. It’s the last day of the Kindred Stamps Release Week for April 2022, and I am excited to share a sneak peek of the new Galactic Desert set. This set and the rest of the April release will be available on Friday, April 29th at 8 AM PST. Shop these new release products here!

Today I am sharing 4 projects featuring the Galactic Desert set. I used my Copic Sketch markers to color all of the images from the stamp set.

Project 1
My first project is quite simple but also interactive! I colored the frozen guy with cool grays, and YR02/YR08 for the bottom panel. I heard that embossing powder, even when set, can damage your Copic nibs so I initially stamped the image in my Memento ink, colored the image, then heat embossed over the colored image with silver embossing powder to give it a 3D look.

I wanted it to look like the frozen guy was being transported through space so I used paper from the Galactic Paper Pack for the background design. The front panel was die cut from the large rectangle die from the Card Basics die set.

I also used the Sentiment Strips Die Set to die cut the largest strip in black cardstock, and then I heat embossed the sentiment with silver embossing powder. I used foam tape to attach the sentiment to the card front.

To finish the scene, I attached the frozen guy to the center of the card front on a wobbler.

Check out the video below to see the wobbler in action!

Project 2
My second card is more of a 3D project, commonly known as a tunnel card. I listed the dimensions for the tunnel card below. I tried to re-create this boss’s palace giving it a dark, grungy look. The pattern paper is also from the Galactic Paper Pack.

I used my Cricut to cut the scenery pieces like the chain links and windows.

Next, I used G40’s and YR20’s to color the boss and I used YR00’s to color his little minion.

To finish the tunnel card, I die cut the the sentiment using the Sentiment Strips Die Set from kraft cardstock and stamped the sentiment with pigment black ink. I used liquid adhesive to attach the sentiment to the front of the card.

Tunnel card dimensions:
* 4.25″ x 7.5″ scored at 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 6.5″, 6.75″, and 7″ on 7.5″ side x (2) of brown grunge paper
-one piece with 4″ oval die cut in center
* 4.25″ x 5.5″ x (1) of kraft paper
– with 3.75″ oval die cut in center
* 2″ x 5.5″ x (1) of brown grunge paper
*used Cricut to cut circle shapes for chains and window frames from dark brown cardstock, inner window panel cut from vellum then colored with red marker

Project 3
I really had fun creating this next background as I used a mixture of colors to create a custom color palette to coordinate with the girl’s outfit.

First, I used Moroccan Tile Stencil to create the background design with Distress Oxide inks. I used Aged Mahogany and Seedless Preserves to create a custom color blend.

While the Moroccan Tile Stencil was still taped to the card front, I placed the Moon & Stars Stencil on top of it and taped that to my desk. I used Aged Mahogany Distress ink with the Moon & Stars Stencil to create the secondary design inside of the ink blended area.

I used the same three layers of ink: Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide ink, Seedless Preserves Oxide ink, and Aged Mahogany Distress ink to color coordinate the sentiment die cut. The sentiment was heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

Project 4

For my last card, I wanted to create a desert scene featuring these traders. I used E30’s to color their cloaks and cool grays to color their faces. I used Y08 and Y38 to color their eyes.

The red sand hills were die cut from the Galactic Paper Pack and the sky background was ink blended with Distress Oxide inks. I used Mermaid Lagoon, Cracked Pistachio, and Squeezed Lemonade to create the sky blend. Next, I used the Moon & Stars Stencil with Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink to create the stars overlay.

To finish the background design I used Vintage Photo to distress the edges of the card front and the sentiment strip. I stamped the sentiment in black pigment ink and heat set it with Clear Embossing Powder. I wanted the sentiment strip to coordinate with the little traders.
